Women of all ages, who have extremely large, heavy breasts (hypermastia) that cause shoulder pain, neck pain, back pain, bra-strap grooving, and heat rashes under the breasts, often consider having breast reduction surgery. At Abbotsford Plastic Surgery, our patients typically choose this procedure to relieve these symptoms and are extremely pleased with the results. By removing excess fat and breast tissue through cosmetic breast reduction surgery, patients experience significant relief from pain and discomfort caused by overly large breasts.
To proceed with breast reduction cosmetic surgery, you will need a referral from your family doctor or a walk-in clinic. If a minimum amount of tissue is removed, the procedure may be covered under the Medical Services Plan.
Since breast reduction surgery is a benefit of the Medical Services Plan, it is performed at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre, just minutes from Highway 1 and about an hour outside of Vancouver, BC.
There is no cost to patients for breast reduction surgery when it qualifies under the Medical Services Plan; however, if Dr. Brown recommends additional liposuction of the lateral chest walls during your procedure, that portion is not covered. If applicable, Abbotsford Plastic Surgery will provide a custom quote.
The breast reduction procedure takes approximately 60 minutes and is performed under general anaesthesia. You can expect to be at the hospital for 5–6 hours in total.
Most patients return to their regular routines within 4–6 weeks of breast reduction surgery. You will see Dr. Brown three days post-surgery for drain removal and again about a week later to have stitches removed. Many patients report feeling significantly better just a few weeks after surgery.
Thanks to our shorter waitlist and increased operating time at the hospital, most patients receive a surgical date within 4–6 months of their consultation with Abbotsford Plastic Surgery.
